I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. Found them through Yelp and they totally lived up to expectations. We had breakfast here: great food, excellent service, courteous and friendly owner. This exemplifies the ideal home style breakfast spot. They have cheap delicious food with great service. A few tips: Very small place with 8 total tables and a bar seating area. On the weekend try to miss the crowded times or you may end up waiting 20 plus minutes. Fyi absolutely worth every minute of the wait! I have the michaels special normally with French toast or their awesome pancakes. Small parking lot in front but free parking all around the streets in New Cumberland.

A fantastic breakfast in a friendly neighborly atmosphere. The owner stopped to chat and the waitress was great. Our table had a skillet, omelet and 3 different kinds of pancakes. The skillet had eggs, hash browns, sausage and cheese. I couldn't stop eating. My wife's omelet was packed with filling and yet was fluffy. My kids had pancakes that were delicious. You just can't find pancakes like this. I highly recommend. I love supporting the local businesses. You won't be disappointed.

Wow! Definitely worth a little detour! This place is small but the wait for a table was pretty short for us. Everything was homemade and absolutely delicious! I tried the special which was the cheese lovers bake with home fried potatoes. I added an egg and bacon thinking I might need a little more but I was stuffed after all that. Excellent breakfast; well worth the wait.

This place is awful. The male owner/manager is incredibly rude. I was there with a friend, for the first time, and we were kicked out! He said "you've been here an hour, you need to leave, we have people waiting for this table!", since when was there a time limit on a table or meal?? There were 5 of us! I don't think an hour is too much time at all. I'm a paying customer! I have NEVER been treated so horribly in my life. :( The food was nothing to rave about, the place isn't very clean. The parking is horrible, and the waitress NEVER came to check on us once we got our food. At one point i even tried flagging her down for water and she kept ignoring us. Worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Especially someone with kids! :(

Went because of reviews....so very glad I did. Felt like I was eating food my mom cooked for me, which means REAL food. Traveling as much as I do, I can spot real from semi real food. This was all real, made to order and wonderful. Service was great, too. Happy she told me not to get the Mike's special cuz it would be too big- I couldn't finish the country special! Hope I can return to this quaint, wonderful little spot!!

This place is awesome! We were staying at my cousin's out in the middle of nowhere( somewhere around here lol) and I wasn't expecting to find any great food places. We wanted to get breakfast takeout and she said this place was good. All three of us got different meals for breakfast and everyone loved theres. The french toast was some of the best I'd ever had, it was so good. And the bacon was cooked to perfection. The prices are crazy cheap! If I had a place like this around me, I would definitely be frequenting it often.

Have been here twice, now that I'm a resident of New Cumberland. Food is wonderful home cooked with diner like menu options. They run unique seasonal specials, like egg nog french toast, and their oatmeal is delish!! Prices are very reasonable. Only caveat, it is a small space and normally have to wait for a table. If they are busy, which they always seem to be, you will wait a little for food. They make everything from scratch, so it's quality!! Service is always A++!! Totally our new spot for breakfast!!!

So we were driving up 83 and wanted to grab some breakfast someplace good and not some typical chain joint off the highway. Using Yelp I stumbled upon TJ Homestyle which was certainly off the beaten path. From the outside it didn't look like much, but this place was actually a nice surprise. It has a small dining room area, but I didn't feel on top of others. The decor is definitely older, but I think that adds to its charm. I ordered the most delicious chocolate chip pancakes! They were probably some of the best, if not the best, I ever had. The service was friendly, prices were great and has a very local/small down appeal. This restaurant gives even more meaning to never judging a book by its cover!

TJ's why?? I liked you alot. You seemed to care about your breakfast food. Why oh why are you now making omelets in the microwave?? I SEE a grill back there. You used to grill me up a nice omelet just like homestyle, you know just like your namesake. But last time I was in, you set my plate in front of me, and the omelet was fluffy and in a perfect half circle, straight out of a plastic container you used to cook them in the microwave. Are microwaved eggs some kind of Central PA thing? Why do folks here think that's ok to do? Please tell me you will stop this or I won't be back.

Best breakfast I think I have ever enjoyed at a restaurant. The pancakes and sausage were amazing. I recommend if your just an average eater don't order more than two pancakes. i ordered three thinking I was hungry and left a lot of food on my plate not because it wasn't good but because I could not possibly enjoy anymore. TJ's gives a home kind of feel while eating breakfast. I am new to PA but this is going to be a common establishment for me to dine at.

Five of us wandered in on Sunday morning for breakfast. The amazing friendly staff found room for us in the back. The food was amazing. I had a skillet which was delicious. And I got to try the Bake my sister ordered as a special - YUM! Even the coffee and bread was delicious! I had the opportunity to speak with the owner before we left. Checked this place out based on the great Yelp reviews. It certainly lived up to the praise it has received. I had the Skillet Mess Makings #2, along with the rest of my three eating companions, and a chocolate chip pancake. Both items were tasty and very reasonably priced. Every component that made up the skillet was properly cooked, resulting in zero egg "film" and home fries that were neither under nor over cooked. I've had more poorly prepared home fries than perfectly prepared home fries, so that was a very pleasant experience. The pancake was absolutely gigantic, and as delicious as it was huge. The rest of my table all enjoyed their meals, and we all left happy and content with the amount of food in our stomachs. The owner stopped over and we had a nice conversation about the current state of advertising and the difficulty that business owners have in deciding where to throw their money, considering most forms of advertising aren't worth the expense. He is very passionate about his restaurant, along with being an interesting guy to talk to. The only negative for me was that I think the tables are a bit tight, but that didn't detract from the meal in any way. Great experience, will return!

Visiting family in Mechanicsburg, we wanted some good breakfast, saw TJ Homestyle was highly recommended and went. Wow, probably the best pancakes I've ever had, ( I hope my mom doesnt see this) eggs and home fries were awesome. The only complaint is that they don't crisp the outside of their scrapple, other that that the food and service were top notch. The owner Anthony Bosak came over and introduced himself, which is almost unheard of these days. Being a Service Manager of one of the largest automotive service departments in the D.C Metro area, I enjoyed talking to him about advertising budgets and business. This will definitely be a regular stop when we get up home for a visit.

With only about a dozen tables at first glance you may think this little eatery is nothing special but once you try the food and get a chance to talk to the owner you'll realize how special this place really is! The breakfast is off the charts and if you are lucky enough to go on a Sunday on the stuffed French toast special day no other French toast will ever compare!

My boyfriend and I were on the the Appalachian Brewery trail. After going to the Hershey site the night before we decided we needed a good breakfast before going to the Gettysburg site. Quickly checking with Yelp we found TJ Homestyle. Reading the reviews we decided it was definitely worth the try and boy was it worth it. The place was packed which was a good sign in our eyes. Friendly customers who were also waiting informed us the wait wouldn't be long and definitely worth the 10 minute wait( unfortunately the weather was cold and dreary). However once inside our troubles were forgotten. The atom sphere was warm and friendly , it reminded me of summers at the shore in Jersey. Cute pictures of what I assume we're local kids drawing hung on the wall,which matched the local "everyone knows your name" feel. The owner a sweet man who wanted to make sure we felt comfortable after hearing we where from out of town never let our coffee go empty informed us of the freshness of his ingredients. He didn't need to. The food was excellent! I had the skillet mess which was a combination of eggs,home fries and tomatoes. The perfect cure for a hangover/ base for more brew tasting. My boyfriend had the special of the day. Sausage in gravy over biscuits. He loved it . Overall a great place . We will definitely comeback. Great job TJ

Stopped in for breakfast and was surprised to see (1) how small this place was, and (2) how packed it was inside. However, after a fairly short wait we were kindly seated and I was happy to see there was quite a range of breakfast items available on the menu. I tried the skillet mess which was basically an omelet with hash browns cooked in. It was really good. Others around the table with me also enjoyed their meals. I will say the place was incredibly tacky inside, but clean enough. Service was good and the food was definitely worth a return trip. Check it out for a good breakfast.

I've passed this place many, many times, then finally read the reviews on Yelp and had to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I've been at least three times now in the past two months and plan on going regularly. The food has been really good each time. The owners and staff are friendly and pleasant. It has a group of regulars (I've seen several of the same people each time.) The place itself certainly is tiny, some call it tacky, but I find it charming and cozy. I did get a good laugh at the cut-out in the bathroom door so that it will swing past the sink. Oh well, I did say the place was tiny, didn't I?

Your better than average diner, but very friendly staff and cozy. I wasn't a huge fan of the sausage I got with my country breakfast (pancake, toast, homefries, meat option, and eggs). It takes a certain skill to take something as simple as two fried eggs, home fries, english muffin and sausage and execute it perfectly. Usually at least one of the ingredients is glaringly not up to par in most inexpensive breakfast stops. Found this on yelp looking for a rest stop while driving across the state. This is not your typical off-ramp diner and is well worth the couple extra minutes driving. Wife had pancakes which were excellent. Eggs cooked perfectly and sausage patties (hand-formed) were not the best I have ever had, but a great change-up from the links and preformed patties that are usually found in restaurants of this price-point. Great food for a great price. Nothing fancy but sometimes, all you want is a straight-up breakfast without all the bells and whistles.

Now this is what breakfast is all about! The food is great, let alone the price is drop near 'free'- i mean, i can't believe it! The only drawback is it feels like it's an oversize breakfast/dining table room as opposed to a restaurant because it's so cramped -- but hey, they work with what they have and they do it beautifully! I mean, the place is literally like eating a typical American home cooked meal -- nothing fancy, just plain ol' good food -- and apparently, everyone else recognizes this as well with the stellar reviews.

This is by far my favorite place to eat in New Cumberland. They home style cooking you get is second to none. The staff is wonderful and the food is great. I only wish I managed to get there more often. Definitely check it out if you are in the area. They are only open through 2 pm so get there for breakfast or lunch.

Best breakfast/lunch that I have EVER been to! Chicken and Waffles, stuffed french toast, home made desserts!!! Really friendly staff and hometown people in there. I have never met one person that didnt love TJ`s! Get there early because the specials do run out kinda fast! I mean how many times do you go to a diner for breakfast and the eggs aren`t even cooked correctly? TJ`s has some serious homestyle cooks back in that kitchen. Its like your mom is cooking for you back there! My absolute favorite thing is the sausage patties. You can tell they make them from scratch and by hand. I know its just sausage patties but their attention to detail and flavorful food does not stop at the main entree`. I hope they eventually move or expand because it is super small and sometimes when they are busy you may feel a bit rushed when there is 15 people staring at you waiting for you to finish your meal. You have to go to TJ`s they have the breakfast/lunch game in the area locked down!!

I came here on the recommendation of other Yelp reviews. The complementary breakfast at our hotel was so disgusting, that I had to promptly deposit it in the garbage. So, I was happy to find this little breakfast place only a few miles away. The decor is classic Pennsylvania - wood paneling wainscoting, plastic holiday-themed tablecloths on rectangular tables with those brass colored metal chairs with black padding on the seat. You know, like the kind you'd find in a FVW hall. Walking in, two men in baseball hats and flannel held up the counter over their coffee, breakfasts, and newspapers. I felt like I was entering into the Empire Grill in Richard Russo's Empire Falls. On the wall next to the door, a computer-printed paper proudly advertised the restaurant's presence on Facebook. While this is not particular in any way, there was another piece of paper beneath it with a list of names, accompanied by the message, "Tell us your name if you liked us on Facebook. We want to know what made you like us, what you like about us," etc. There was a friendly younger woman manning (or should I say, womaning) the counter and tables. She promptly delivered a menu and took my drink order for a cup of coffee. I ordered the skillet #3, which had eggs, ham, sausage, and cheese with rye bread. I didn't realize it was an omelet (I don't really like omelets), but it was still hearty and tasty in that way that an honest, filling breakfast at a diner can be. They even had three types of hot sauce to offer: Tabasco (which I don't enjoy), Crystal, and something else that I didn't recognize. I went with the Crystal. My coffee was also topped off about 5 times, which kept me hydrated. And all for under $10. Awesome!

If you're in the Harrisburg area and looking for a delicious breakfast you have to try TJ Homestyle!!! We were quick to be waited on and were immediately served coffee (which kept coming). I had an exellent veggie omelet with sausage and my dining parter had the skillet. Everything was cooked to order and hot. I felt like I was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen. The owner was very nice and came over to speak with us. Would absolutely go back!!!

Stopped in on a trip down to DC. Glad I found this place! Generous portions, the creamed chipped beef and sausage gravy were the specials for the day. My dad claims it was the best sausage gravy he's ever had -- including his own! The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. The home fries were almost like scalloped potatoes and browned perfectly. So good! Definitely recommend stopping in.

FANTASTIC little place for breakfast & lunch. We are new to the area & got completely lucky finding this spot. The staff is so friendly, you feel like you've walked into a friends house. Our waitress was Janet was a pleasure, she kept our drinks filled & provided us with great suggestions. Tony, the owner mingled among the customers welcoming everyone & making sure we all had what we needed. The food is unbelievable. Everything is made fresh when ordered & you can tell it! They use fresh produce grown which is primarily grown in their own garden when possible. We walked in as strangers & walked out feeling like friends. TJ Homestyle in one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in New Cumberland. I like TJ Homestyle because they use fresh, healthy ingredients and the food is consistently good. I always get the vegetarian omelette and douse it in Old Grumpy's Hot Sauce (make sure to ask for this!). The proprietors are very kind and friendly. I am disappointed that they aren't open for lunch every day of the week anymore :(

This place was wonderful. It is everything a breakfast diner should be, down to the patterned tableclothes and the laminate countertops. THe staff knew all of the patrons, that is except for my party; and all the patrons knew each other regardless of their arrival times. Everyone else said it as well as I ever could, but I think this place deserves as many perfect ratings as possible. I absolutely LOVE it here. Get anything on the menu...you won't be disappointed. Bonus is that the prices are totally reasonable. One note about another review. Someone called the decor "tacky". That may be one way to interpret it, but I would categorize it more as "charming". To me it adds to the atmosphere and fits the attitude there perfectly. I mean, they have artwork from local children on the walls. How much more "homestyle" can you get?!

I came here for lunch about a week ago. I had heard good things so I wanted to try breakfast. First of all, if you like fluffy, dough-y pancakes, COME HERE! They are so good. Two will fill you up. I had a platter with eggs, toast, homefries and sausage as well as the pancakes. The other items on the plate I do not believe were anything special. Others have written about the sausages but I was not impressed. I have been eating a lot of turkey sausage lately so maybe I just can't do regular sausage anymore. Anyway, the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is very small- probably no more than 10 tables so I would suggest coming on an off time. I showed up around 12:30pm and it was perfect. Others have reported it gets busy. There is parking in the front but it is a little odd to back up onto Bridge Street so I recommend parking on the side street. It appears a lot of regulars go there. The service was fine, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Again, go here for the pancakes. Yum.

Friends who recently moved to the Harrisburg area told us about this place when we were passing through on vacation. It was so good we stopped coming and going! The sausage is the best I have EVER eaten. In fact I tried to figure out a way to get some back to SC. And the baked oatmeal...OMG!! Never had anything so good for breakfast! The owner is so friendly. Made a point of coming by the first time to speak to us and when we returned the 2nd time, he made us feel like we were regulars. The place is small, the bathrooms even smaller but everything is clean and you feel like you are eating in your Grandma's kitchen.

We went here for brunch. I like mom & pop establishments and the food reminded me of being down south. We both ordered the Micheal's platter. I thought that I was going to be able to finish my plate but those pancakes are FILLING! I was able to eat everything but one pancake and some of the egg. I like egg whites only and they were fried with the yolk so I just couldn't finish the rest. If we ever go back to the area I'm sure that we will be stopping her for breakfast and/or lunch.

Delicious, home-cooked food at reasonable prices! This little gem is located in a small house, complete with quaint decor that is typical of central PA. There is a real "Mom" in the kitchen, and your taste buds will confirm that. It is owned and operated by a family (mom, dad, & daughter) and has been open for about 8 years. The daily menus & prices are conveniently posted on Facebook. BF & I went on a Saturday around 11:30am. The place IS tiny, but we were seated right away by a cheerful waitress (the daughter). BF had the homemade blackberry granola, served warm, with cream (I almost ate all of it as it was sooo yummy), and eggs, bacon, sausage & homefries. I had a vegetarian omelette & wheat toast. This is hands-down the tastiest food I've had since I moved here a year ago. There seemed to be a lot of regulars. Our food was perfect, NOT greasy and piping hot (even the toast). There were puzzle toys on our table, and a 1937 issue of Popular Mechanics available to read. Antique food tins decorated the window sills. Will definitely be making this a regular spot!

I am a fan of TJ's and eat breakfast here pretty much every day. Tony and Janet and their friendly staff are my breakfast family. Everything is homemade and the desserts are fabulous. If they ever have orange kissed french toast on the menu ORDER IT. It has a kick of Grand Marnier in it and is fabulous. Another favorite is coconut custard pie. My favorite lunch is the Turkey BLT club. No one makes it better for the price. The only downside to TJ's is the size. Depending on when you go on a weekend you may have to wait although typically the turnover of tables is fast. Weekdays though are no problem.

My boyfriend and I were on the the Appalachian Brewery trail. After going to the Hershey site the night before we decided we needed a good breakfast before going to the Gettysburg site. Quickly checking with Yelp we found TJ Homestyle. Reading the reviews we decided it was definitely worth the try and boy was it worth it. The place was packed which was a good sign in our eyes. Friendly customers who were also waiting informed us the wait wouldn't be long and definitely worth the 10 minute wait( unfortunately the weather was cold and dreary). However once inside our troubles were forgotten. The atom sphere was warm and friendly , it reminded me of summers at the shore in Jersey. Cute pictures of what I assume we're local kids drawing hung on the wall,which matched the local "everyone knows your name" feel. The owner a sweet man who wanted to make sure we felt comfortable after hearing we where from out of town never let our coffee go empty informed us of the freshness of his ingredients. He didn't need to. The food was excellent! I had the skillet mess which was a combination of eggs,home fries and tomatoes. The perfect cure for a hangover/ base for more brew tasting. My boyfriend had the special of the day. Sausage in gravy over biscuits. He loved it . Overall a great place . We will definitely comeback. Great job TJ

I've passed this place many, many times, then finally read the reviews on Yelp and had to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I've been at least three times now in the past two months and plan on going regularly. The food has been really good each time. The owners and staff are friendly and pleasant. It has a group of regulars (I've seen several of the same people each time.) The place itself certainly is tiny, some call it tacky, but I find it charming and cozy. I did get a good laugh at the cut-out in the bathroom door so that it will swing past the sink. Oh well, I did say the place was tiny, didn't I?

Visiting family in Mechanicsburg, we wanted some good breakfast, saw TJ Homestyle was highly recommended and went. Wow, probably the best pancakes I've ever had, ( I hope my mom doesnt see this) eggs and home fries were awesome. The only complaint is that they don't crisp the outside of their scrapple, other that that the food and service were top notch. The owner Anthony Bosak came over and introduced himself, which is almost unheard of these days. Being a Service Manager of one of the largest automotive service departments in the D.C Metro area, I enjoyed talking to him about advertising budgets and business. This will definitely be a regular stop when we get up home for a visit.

Stopped in for breakfast and was surprised to see (1) how small this place was, and (2) how packed it was inside. However, after a fairly short wait we were kindly seated and I was happy to see there was quite a range of breakfast items available on the menu. I came here on the recommendation of other Yelp reviews. The complementary breakfast at our hotel was so disgusting, that I had to promptly deposit it in the garbage. So, I was happy to find this little breakfast place only a few miles away. The decor is classic Pennsylvania - wood paneling wainscoting, plastic holiday-themed tablecloths on rectangular tables with those brass colored metal chairs with black padding on the seat. You know, like the kind you'd find in a FVW hall. Walking in, two men in baseball hats and flannel held up the counter over their coffee, breakfasts, and newspapers. I felt like I was entering into the Empire Grill in Richard Russo's Empire Falls. On the wall next to the door, a computer-printed paper proudly advertised the restaurant's presence on Facebook. While this is not particular in any way, there was another piece of paper beneath it with a list of names, accompanied by the message, "Tell us your name if you liked us on Facebook. We want to know what made you like us, what you like about us," etc. There was a friendly younger woman manning (or should I say, womaning) the counter and tables. She promptly delivered a menu and took my drink order for a cup of coffee. I ordered the skillet #3, which had eggs, ham, sausage, and cheese with rye bread. I didn't realize it was an omelet (I don't really like omelets), but it was still hearty and tasty in that way that an honest, filling breakfast at a diner can be. They even had three types of hot sauce to offer: Tabasco (which I don't enjoy), Crystal, and something else that I didn't recognize. I went with the Crystal. My coffee was also topped off about 5 times, which kept me hydrated. And all for under $10. Awesome!

If you're in the Harrisburg area and looking for a delicious breakfast you have to try TJ Homestyle!!! We were quick to be waited on and were immediately served coffee (which kept coming). I had an exellent veggie omelet with sausage and my dining parter had the skillet. Everything was cooked to order and hot. I felt like I was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen. The owner was very nice and came over to speak with us. Would absolutely go back!!!

This place is awesome! We were staying at my cousin's out in the middle of nowhere( somewhere around here lol) and I wasn't expecting to find any great food places. Have been here twice, now that I'm a resident of New Cumberland. Food is wonderful home cooked with diner like menu options. I don't think an hour is too much time at all. I'm a paying customer! I have NEVER been treated so horribly in my life. :( The food was nothing to rave about, the place isn't very clean. The parking is horrible, and the waitress NEVER came to check on us once we got our food. At one point i even tried flagging her down for water and she kept ignoring us. So we were driving up 83 and wanted to grab some breakfast someplace good and not some typical chain joint off the highway. Using Yelp I stumbled upon TJ Homestyle which was certainly off the beaten path. From the outside it didn't look like much, but this place was actually a nice surprise. It has a small dining room area, but I didn't feel on top of others. The decor is definitely older, but I think that adds to its charm. I ordered the most delicious chocolate chip pancakes! They were probably some of the best, if not the best, I ever had. The service was friendly, prices were great and has a very local/small down appeal. This restaurant gives even more meaning to never judging a book by its cover!

We went here for brunch. I like mom & pop establishments and the food reminded me of being down south. We both ordered the Micheal's platter. I thought that I was going to be able to finish my plate but those pancakes are FILLING! I was able to eat everything but one pancake and some of the egg. I like egg whites only and they were fried with the yolk so I just couldn't finish the rest. If we ever go back to the area I'm sure that we will be stopping her for breakfast and/or lunch.

Checked this place out based on the great Yelp reviews. It certainly lived up to the praise it has received. I had the Skillet Mess Makings #2, along with the rest of my three eating companions, and a chocolate chip pancake. Both items were tasty and very reasonably priced. Every component that made up the skillet was properly cooked, resulting in zero egg "film" and home fries that were neither under nor over cooked. I've had more poorly prepared home fries than perfectly prepared home fries, so that was a very pleasant experience. The pancake was absolutely gigantic, and as delicious as it was huge. The rest of my table all enjoyed their meals, and we all left happy and content with the amount of food in our stomachs. The owner stopped over and we had a nice conversation about the current state of advertising and the difficulty that business owners have in deciding where to throw their money, considering most forms of advertising aren't worth the expense. He is very passionate about his restaurant, along with being an interesting guy to talk to. The only negative for me was that I think the tables are a bit tight, but that didn't detract from the meal in any way. Great experience, will return!

My dad claims it was the best sausage gravy he's ever had -- including his own! The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. The home fries were almost like scalloped potatoes and browned perfectly. So good! Definitely recommend stopping in.

FANTASTIC little place for breakfast & lunch. We are new to the area & got completely lucky finding this spot. The staff is so friendly, you feel like you've walked into a friends house. Our waitress was Janet was a pleasure, she kept our drinks filled & provided us with great suggestions. Tony, the owner mingled among the customers welcoming everyone & making sure we all had what we needed. The food is unbelievable. Everything is made fresh when ordered & you can tell it! TJ Homestyle in one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in New Cumberland. I like TJ Homestyle because they use fresh, healthy ingredients and the food is consistently good. Delicious, home-cooked food at reasonable prices! This little gem is located in a small house, complete with quaint decor that is typical of central PA. There is a real "Mom" in the kitchen, and your taste buds will confirm that. It is owned and operated by a family (mom, dad, & daughter) and has been open for about 8 years. The daily menus & prices are conveniently posted on Facebook. BF & I went on a Saturday around 11:30am. The place IS tiny, but we were seated right away by a cheerful waitress (the daughter). BF had the homemade blackberry granola, served warm, with cream (I almost ate all of it as it was sooo yummy), and eggs, bacon, sausage & homefries. I had a vegetarian omelette & wheat toast. This is hands-down the tastiest food I've had since I moved here a year ago. There seemed to be a lot of regulars. The dad was on the register, and moving between tables to see how the customer's meals were. Table, dining room (and bathroom) were clean. Our food was perfect, NOT greasy and piping hot (even the toast). There were puzzle toys on our table, and a 1937 issue of Popular Mechanics available to read. Antique food tins decorated the window sills. Will definitely be making this a regular spot!

I came here on the recommendation of other Yelp reviews. The complementary breakfast at our hotel was so disgusting, that I had to promptly deposit it in the garbage. So, I was happy to find this little breakfast place only a few miles away. The decor is classic Pennsylvania - wood paneling wainscoting, plastic holiday-themed tablecloths on rectangular tables with those brass colored metal chairs with black padding on the seat. You know, like the kind you'd find in a FVW hall. Walking in, two men in baseball hats and flannel held up the counter over their coffee, breakfasts, and newspapers. I felt like I was entering into the Empire Grill in Richard Russo's Empire Falls. On the wall next to the door, a computer-printed paper proudly advertised the restaurant's presence on Facebook. While this is not particular in any way, there was another piece of paper beneath it with a list of names, accompanied by the message, "Tell us your name if you liked us on Facebook. We want to know what made you like us, what you like about us," etc. There was a friendly younger woman manning (or should I say, womaning) the counter and tables. She promptly delivered a menu and took my drink order for a cup of coffee. I ordered the skillet #3, which had eggs, ham, sausage, and cheese with rye bread. I didn't realize it was an omelet (I don't really like omelets), but it was still hearty and tasty in that way that an honest, filling breakfast at a diner can be. They even had three types of hot sauce to offer: Tabasco (which I don't enjoy), Crystal, and something else that I didn't recognize. I went with the Crystal. My coffee was also topped off about 5 times, which kept me hydrated. And all for under $10. Awesome!

If you're in the Harrisburg area and looking for a delicious breakfast you have to try TJ Homestyle!!! We were quick to be waited on and were immediately served coffee (which kept coming). I had an exellent veggie omelet with sausage and my dining parter had the skillet. Everything was cooked to order and hot. I felt like I was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen. The owner was very nice and came over to speak with us. Would absolutely go back!!!

I came here for lunch about a week ago. I had heard good things so I wanted to try breakfast. First of all, if you like fluffy, dough-y pancakes, COME HERE! They are so good. Two will fill you up. I had a platter with eggs, toast, homefries and sausage as well as the pancakes. The other items on the plate I do not believe were anything special. Others have written about the sausages but I was not impressed. I have been eating a lot of turkey sausage lately so maybe I just can't do regular sausage anymore. Anyway, the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is very small- probably no more than 10 tables so I would suggest coming on an off time. I showed up around 12:30pm and it was perfect. Others have reported it gets busy. There is parking in the front but it is a little odd to back up onto Bridge Street so I recommend parking on the side street. It appears a lot of regulars go there. The service was fine, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Again, go here for the pancakes. Yum.

Everyone else said it as well as I ever could, but I think this place deserves as many perfect ratings as possible. I absolutely LOVE it here. Get anything on the menu...you won't be disappointed. Bonus is that the prices are totally reasonable. One note about another review. Someone called the decor "tacky". That may be one way to interpret it, but I would categorize it more as "charming". To me it adds to the atmosphere and fits the attitude there perfectly. I mean, they have artwork from local children on the walls. How much more "homestyle" can you get?!

Friends who recently moved to the Harrisburg area told us about this place when we were passing through on vacation. It was so good we stopped coming and going! The sausage is the best I have EVER eaten. In fact I tried to figure out a way to get some back to SC. And the baked oatmeal...OMG!! Never had anything so good for breakfast! The owner is so friendly. Made a point of coming by the first time to speak to us and when we returned the 2nd time, he made us feel like we were regulars. The place is small, the bathrooms even smaller but everything is clean and you feel like you are eating in your Grandma's kitchen.

It's too bad that this place has so many good reviews bc that is what drew an upstate NYer and former PA gal and her boyfriend in, bc I never got to try their food bc the customer service was TERRIBLE. We stood at the entrance in the doorway for 3 minutes and not one of the four staff members acknowledged us. We were really hungry so we sat ourselves at the breakfast bar, again not ONE person said ANYTHING to us. It was worse that an older female with short hair and green eyeshadow practically AVOIDED eye contact with us. I'm so disgusted with the level of friendliness and lack of attention to detail. Not until we WERE WALKING OUT THE DOOR did someone day "are you leaving?" Not even a sorry we didn't see you, sorry can I help you, NOTHING. Just a lazy, last minute question which the answer was quite obvious bc we were on our way out. I am in the area quite often and will NEVER spend a dime in that place. Thanks a lot TJ Homestyle for NOTHING. Maybe you'll teach your staff that anyone walking in the door is valuable bc they pay the bills. As far as the food, everything was quite good, and I was especially impressed with a PERFECT pair of over-medium eggs...something that a surprising amount of breakfast places under-cook. The atmosphere was quite what you would expect for a rural location; small, simple and quaint. However, what really put this place over the top in my opinion was the owner, who came over and introduced himself, asking if we were the ones with the New York plate in the parking lot, and then inquiring about our food, how we found the place, etc... He seemed genuinely interested in our feedback and was extremely gracious, despite the fact that they were rather busy at the time...you simply do not get this kind of service in a metropolitan area. I would say that if you're looking for breakfast in the greater Harrisburg area, TJ Homestyle is a "must eat"...

I am a fan of TJ's and eat breakfast here pretty much every day. Tony and Janet and their friendly staff are my breakfast family. Everything is homemade and the desserts are fabulous. If they ever have orange kissed french toast on the menu ORDER IT. It has a kick of Grand Marnier in it and is fabulous. Another favorite is coconut custard pie. My favorite lunch is the Turkey BLT club. No one makes it better for the price. The only downside to TJ's is the size. Depending on when you go on a weekend you may have to wait although typically the turnover of tables is fast. Weekdays though are no problem.

Visiting family in Mechanicsburg, we wanted some good breakfast, saw TJ Homestyle was highly recommended and went. Wow, probably the best pancakes I've ever had, ( I hope my mom doesnt see this) eggs and home fries were awesome. The only complaint is that they don't crisp the outside of their scrapple, other that that the food and service were top notch. The owner Anthony Bosak came over and introduced himself, which is almost unheard of these days. Being a Service Manager of one of the largest automotive service departments in the D.C Metro area, I enjoyed talking to him about advertising budgets and business. This will definitely be a regular stop when we get up home for a visit.

With only about a dozen tables at first glance you may think this little eatery is nothing special but once you try the food and get a chance to talk to the owner you'll realize how special this place really is! My boyfriend and I were on the the Appalachian Brewery trail. After going to the Hershey site the night before we decided we needed a good breakfast before going to the Gettysburg site. Quickly checking with Yelp we found TJ Homestyle. Reading the reviews we decided it was definitely worth the try and boy was it worth it. The place was packed which was a good sign in our eyes. Friendly customers who were also waiting informed us the wait wouldn't be long and definitely worth the 10 minute wait( unfortunately the weather was cold and dreary). However once inside our troubles were forgotten. The atom sphere was warm and friendly , it reminded me of summers at the shore in Jersey. Cute pictures of what I assume we're local kids drawing hung on the wall,which matched the local "everyone knows your name" feel. The owner a sweet man who wanted to make sure we felt comfortable after hearing we where from out of town never let our coffee go empty informed us of the freshness of his ingredients. He didn't need to. The food was excellent! I had the skillet mess which was a combination of eggs,home fries and tomatoes. The perfect cure for a hangover/ base for more brew tasting. My boyfriend had the special of the day. Sausage in gravy over biscuits. He loved it . Overall a great place . We will definitely comeback. Great job TJ

Stopped in for breakfast and was surprised to see (1) how small this place was, and (2) how packed it was inside. However, after a fairly short wait we were kindly seated and I was happy to see there was quite a range of breakfast items available on the menu. I tried the skillet mess which was basically an omelet with hash browns cooked in. It was really good. Others around the table with me also enjoyed their meals. I will say the place was incredibly tacky inside, but clean enough. Service was good and the food was definitely worth a return trip. Check it out for a good breakfast.

Best breakfast/lunch that I have EVER been to! Chicken and Waffles, stuffed french toast, home made desserts!!! Really friendly staff and hometown people in there. I have never met one person that didnt love TJ`s! Get there early because the specials do run out kinda fast! I mean how many times do you go to a diner for breakfast and the eggs aren`t even cooked correctly? TJ`s has some serious homestyle cooks back in that kitchen. Its like your mom is cooking for you back there! My absolute favorite thing is the sausage patties. You can tell they make them from scratch and by hand. I know its just sausage patties but their attention to detail and flavorful food does not stop at the main entree`. I hope they eventually move or expand because it is super small and sometimes when they are busy you may feel a bit rushed when there is 15 people staring at you waiting for you to finish your meal. You have to go to TJ`s they have the breakfast/lunch game in the area locked down!!

On the weekend try to miss the crowded times or you may end up waiting 20 plus minutes. Fyi absolutely worth every minute of the wait! I have the michaels special normally with French toast or their awesome pancakes. Small parking lot in front but free parking all around the streets in New Cumberland.

A fantastic breakfast in a friendly neighborly atmosphere. The owner stopped to chat and the waitress was great. Our table had a skillet, omelet and 3 different kinds of pancakes. The skillet had eggs, hash browns, sausage and cheese. I couldn't stop eating. My wife's omelet was packed with filling and yet was fluffy. My kids had pancakes that were delicious. You just can't find pancakes like this. I highly recommend. I love supporting the local businesses. You won't be disappointed.

This place is awful. The male owner/manager is incredibly rude. I was there with a friend, for the first time, and we were kicked out! He said "you've been here an hour, you need to leave, we have people waiting for this table!", since when was there a time limit on a table or meal?? There were 5 of us! I don't think an hour is too much time at all. I'm a paying customer! I have NEVER been treated so horribly in my life. :( The food was nothing to rave about, the place isn't very clean. The parking is horrible, and the waitress NEVER came to check on us once we got our food. At one point i even tried flagging her down for water and she kept ignoring us. Worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Especially someone with kids! :(

This place is awesome! We were staying at my cousin's out in the middle of nowhere( somewhere around here lol) and I wasn't expecting to find any great food places. We wanted to get breakfast takeout and she said this place was good. All three of us got different meals for breakfast and everyone loved theres. Have been here twice, now that I'm a resident of New Cumberland. Food is wonderful home cooked with diner like menu options. They run unique seasonal specials, like egg nog french toast, and their oatmeal is delish!! Prices are very reasonable. Only caveat, it is a small space and normally have to wait for a table. So we were driving up 83 and wanted to grab some breakfast someplace good and not some typical chain joint off the highway. Using Yelp I stumbled upon TJ Homestyle which was certainly off the beaten path. From the outside it didn't look like much, but this place was actually a nice surprise. It has a small dining room area, but I didn't feel on top of others. The decor is definitely older, but I think that adds to its charm. I ordered the most delicious chocolate chip pancakes! They were probably some of the best, if not the best, I ever had. The service was friendly, prices were great and has a very local/small down appeal. This restaurant gives even more meaning to never judging a book by its cover!

TJ's why?? I liked you alot. You seemed to care about your breakfast food. Why oh why are you now making omelets in the microwave?? I SEE a grill back there. You used to grill me up a nice omelet just like homestyle, you know just like your namesake. But last time I was in, you set my plate in front of me, and the omelet was fluffy and in a perfect half circle, straight out of a plastic container you used to cook them in the microwave. Are microwaved eggs some kind of Central PA thing? Why do folks here think that's ok to do? Please tell me you will stop this or I won't be back.

Best breakfast I think I have ever enjoyed at a restaurant. The pancakes and sausage were amazing. I recommend if your just an average eater don't order more than two pancakes. i ordered three thinking I was hungry and left a lot of food on my plate not because it wasn't good but because I could not possibly enjoy anymore. We went here for brunch. I like mom & pop establishments and the food reminded me of being down south. We both ordered the Micheal's platter. I thought that I was going to be able to finish my plate but those pancakes are FILLING! I was able to eat everything but one pancake and some of the egg. I like egg whites only and they were fried with the yolk so I just couldn't finish the rest. If we ever go back to the area I'm sure that we will be stopping her for breakfast and/or lunch.

Checked this place out based on the great Yelp reviews. It certainly lived up to the praise it has received. I had the Skillet Mess Makings #2, along with the rest of my three eating companions, and a chocolate chip pancake. Both items were tasty and very reasonably priced. Every component that made up the skillet was properly cooked, resulting in zero egg "film" and home fries that were neither under nor over cooked. I've had more poorly prepared home fries than perfectly prepared home fries, so that was a very pleasant experience. The pancake was absolutely gigantic, and as delicious as it was huge. The rest of my table all enjoyed their meals, and we all left happy and content with the amount of food in our stomachs. The owner stopped over and we had a nice conversation about the current state of advertising and the difficulty that business owners have in deciding where to throw their money, considering most forms of advertising aren't worth the expense. He is very passionate about his restaurant, along with being an interesting guy to talk to. The only negative for me was that I think the tables are a bit tight, but that didn't detract from the meal in any way. Great experience, will return!

Five of us wandered in on Sunday morning for breakfast. The amazing friendly staff found room for us in the back. The food was amazing. I had a skillet which was delicious. And I got to try the Bake my sister ordered as a special - YUM! Even the coffee and bread was delicious! I had the opportunity to speak with the owner before we left. We will definitely head back there when we return to the area.

Stopped in on a trip down to DC. Glad I found this place! Generous portions, the creamed chipped beef and sausage gravy were the specials for the day. My dad claims it was the best sausage gravy he's ever had -- including his own! The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. The home fries were almost like scalloped potatoes and browned perfectly. So good! Definitely recommend stopping in.

FANTASTIC little place for breakfast & lunch. We are new to the area & got completely lucky finding this spot. The staff is so friendly, you feel like you've walked into a friends house. Our waitress was Janet was a pleasure, she kept our drinks filled & provided us with great suggestions. Tony, the owner mingled among the customers welcoming everyone & making sure we all had what we needed. The food is unbelievable. Everything is made fresh when ordered & you can tell it! They use fresh produce grown which is primarily grown in their own garden when possible. We walked in as strangers & walked out feeling like friends. Already looking forward to breakfast next weekend.

This place was wonderful. It is everything a breakfast diner should be, down to the patterned tableclothes and the laminate countertops. THe staff knew all of the patrons, that is except for my party; and all the patrons knew each other regardless of their arrival times. Even though i was just passing through town, this was a gem, and will send people this way.

Delicious, home-cooked food at reasonable prices! This little gem is located in a small house, complete with quaint decor that is typical of central PA. There is a real "Mom" in the kitchen, and your taste buds will confirm that. It is owned and operated by a family (mom, dad, & daughter) and has been open for about 8 years. The daily menus & prices are conveniently posted on Facebook. BF & I went on a Saturday around 11:30am. The place IS tiny, but we were seated right away by a cheerful waitress (the daughter). BF had the homemade blackberry granola, served warm, with cream (I almost ate all of it as it was sooo yummy), and eggs, bacon, sausage & homefries. I had a vegetarian omelette & wheat toast. This is hands-down the tastiest food I've had since I moved here a year ago. There seemed to be a lot of regulars. The dad was on the register, and moving between tables to see how the customer's meals were. Table, dining room (and bathroom) were clean. Our food was perfect, NOT greasy and piping hot (even the toast). There were puzzle toys on our table, and a 1937 issue of Popular Mechanics available to read. Antique food tins decorated the window sills. Will definitely be making this a regular spot!

The pancakes were awesome! I recommend the chocolate chip ones. Very reasonable with prices. The only complaint I have is that the dining area is small so if it is really busy you might have to b wait to be seated.

I came here for lunch about a week ago. I had heard good things so I wanted to try breakfast. First of all, if you like fluffy, dough-y pancakes, COME HERE! They are so good. Two will fill you up. I had a platter with eggs, toast, homefries and sausage as well as the pancakes. The other items on the plate I do not believe were anything special. Others have written about the sausages but I was not impressed. I have been eating a lot of turkey sausage lately so maybe I just can't do regular sausage anymore. Anyway, the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is very small- probably no more than 10 tables so I would suggest coming on an off time. I showed up around 12:30pm and it was perfect. Others have reported it gets busy. There is parking in the front but it is a little odd to back up onto Bridge Street so I recommend parking on the side street. It appears a lot of regulars go there. The service was fine, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. Again, go here for the pancakes. Yum.

Everyone else said it as well as I ever could, but I think this place deserves as many perfect ratings as possible. I absolutely LOVE it here. Get anything on the menu...you won't be disappointed. Bonus is that the prices are totally reasonable. One note about another review. Someone called the decor "tacky". That may be one way to interpret it, but I would categorize it more as "charming". To me it adds to the atmosphere and fits the attitude there perfectly. I mean, they have artwork from local children on the walls. How much more "homestyle" can you get?!

Friends who recently moved to the Harrisburg area told us about this place when we were passing through on vacation. It was so good we stopped coming and going! The sausage is the best I have EVER eaten. In fact I tried to figure out a way to get some back to SC. And the baked oatmeal...OMG!! Never had anything so good for breakfast! The owner is so friendly. Made a point of coming by the first time to speak to us and when we returned the 2nd time, he made us feel like we were regulars. The place is small, the bathrooms even smaller but everything is clean and you feel like you are eating in your Grandma's kitchen.

This place is great! It is a little small but the food is worth any waiting. I recommend going right when they open. My family and I go just about every weekend. The staff is wonderful. When I think mom and pop diner type places this place is exactly it. The price is reasonable!

My fave place for breakfast when visiting family. I call it the "Cheers" of New Cumberland. You always see someone you know there! Everyone in town eats there because it's the best,home cooked,affordable, place around!

This is by far my favorite place to eat in New Cumberland. They home style cooking you get is second to none. The staff is wonderful and the food is great. I only wish I managed to get there more often. Definitely check it out if you are in the area. They are only open through 2 pm so get there for breakfast or lunch.

Best breakfast/lunch that I have EVER been to! Chicken and Waffles, stuffed french toast, home made desserts!!! Really friendly staff and hometown people in there. I have never met one person that didnt love TJ`s! Get there early because the specials do run out kinda fast! I mean how many times do you go to a diner for breakfast and the eggs aren`t even cooked correctly? TJ`s has some serious homestyle cooks back in that kitchen. Its like your mom is cooking for you back there! My absolute favorite thing is the sausage patties. You can tell they make them from scratch and by hand. I know its just sausage patties but their attention to detail and flavorful food does not stop at the main entree`. I hope they eventually move or expand because it is super small and sometimes when they are busy you may feel a bit rushed when there is 15 people staring at you waiting for you to finish your meal. You have to go to TJ`s they have the breakfast/lunch game in the area locked down!!
